Modi strikes Hat-trick in Gujarat

Narendra Modi performed a hat-trick retaining for the third time and propelled as a strong contender in the Prime Ministerial race in 2014 while Congress ousted BJP from office in Himachal Pradesh. Narendra Modi won by a margin of 86373 votes defeating congress rival Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. The BJP registered its fifth consecutive victory in Gujarat, third under Narendra Modi, with bagged 115 seats, two less than 2007 Elections, while congress bagged 61 seats, one more than 2007 elections.

National Sports Awards 2012

The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee gave away National sports and adventure awards in a glittering ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan here today. In a momentous recognition of 2012 the role & contribution of Indian Railways in promoting sports in the country, Railway Sports Promotion Board of Ministry of Railways has bagged "Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar" for the year 2012 which is a part of National Sports Awards, announced by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India.

PM's statement in Parliament on CAG Report

"I seek the indulgence of House to make a statement on issues regarding coal block allocations which have been the subject of much discussion in the press and on which several Hon'ble members have also expressed concern. The issue arise from a report of Comptroller & Auditor General which has been tabled in Parliament & remitted to PAC. CAG reports are normally discussed in detail in PAC, when the Ministry is concerned responds to the issues raised. The PAC then submit its report to the Speaker and that Report is then discussed in Parliament.

PM speech at presentation ceremony of PM's Trophy to Best Performing Steel Plant

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh gave away Prime Minister's Trophy for the best integrated Steel Plant in India to Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL for 2009-10 and TATA steel Limited for 2008-09 at a function in New Delhi. He says: " I am very happy to be present once again in today's function to felicitate the best performing integrated steel plants during the years 2008-09 & 2009-10. The per capita consumption of steel is an important indicator of economic development of country. In 2004-05 our per capita consumption of steel was only 34 kg, which has grown to 59 kg in 2011-12. India has now emerged as the 4th largest steel producer in the world with 74 million tonne in 2011-12.

PAC will examine CAG report

Public Accounts Committee decided to examine the latest report of CAG on coal block allocation during the period 2004-2009. The Congress & BJP locking horns over CAG report coal inside parliament, its ripples are likely to felt in meetings of PAC when the issue is taken up for scrutiny. 

The PAC led by BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi decided to include in its agenda CAG reports on coal allocation, Delhi International Airport Ltd, Ultra Mega Power Plants & Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. PAC's controversial CAG report on 2G scam had strongly indicated former Telecom Minister A. Raja and come down heavily on PMO & cabinet secretariat for not taking corrective action while not sparing even Prime Minister for some unfortunate omissions. The draft was rejected by Congress members.

Ramdev Calls for "all-out war" against Congress

New Delhi was thrown into chaos with Baba Ramdev, courting arrest while trying to march towards Parliament with a call for an "all-out war" against the Congress on the issue of black money and corruption. Baba Ramdev actually refused to be taken to Bawana on the outskirts of Delhi, and insisted that all his supporters accompany him. He forced the police to change course and take him & his followers to centrally located Ambedkar Stadium under preventive detention. Ramdev Baba and his supporters were let off after 6 hours of arrest, they refused to leave the stadium. Till late evening, they stayed put inside demanding that the government heed their demands. The Yoga guru declared that he would not break his fast till Tuesday Night.

There saw, Police officers pleading with him to vacate the stadium as it is close to Red Fort, where tomorrow Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will hoist flag at 8:00 morning. Ramdev asked the govt to immediately provide sufficient food and water to his supporters. "Such an irony of this country is that while terrorists like Ajmal Kasab were being given biryani for food, desh bhakht like me & thousands with me are not even given water & basic facilities" Ramdev said.

He was also backed by leaders of BJD, Akali Dal & Janata Party leaders, who shared the dais with him and pledged their support to his cause.

4 Bomb blasts rocked Pune

4 low intensity blasts rocked in Pune on Wednesday evening injuring one person. The explosions were set off with pencil cell detonators placed in a plastic bag, a dust bin and on cycles at two location. Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol said it was a case of mischief and no terror act. The situation is under control and there is  no need to panic. Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh said that it was a planned attack & terrorists role could not be rule out.


The first explosion occurred near Bala Gangadharva Rang Mandir, an auditorium on Junglee Maharaj Road Dayanand Patil, who was injured in the blast, was carrying a cake box kept in a plastic bag. An unconfirmed report stated that Mr. Patil was a member of social activist Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption Movement. The 2nd explosion occurred at McDonald's food store and then the 3rd & 4th blasts occurred at Dena Bank & Garware chowk.


The explosions occurred on a day the new appointed Union Home minister, Sushilkumar Shinde, was scheduled to visit the City.

Centre decide to frame NWF Act

Government of India decide to frame a National Water Framework Act with guiding principles on water laws the states may adopt. States that adopt & reform will be incentivised for water projects. The Government has appointed former Planning Commission member Y.K. Alagh, head of a panel that will draft the national framework law meant to be a piece of overarching legislation. The water Resource Ministry has set up another panel under Retired Judge T.S. Doabia to amend the Rivers Board Act to facilitate holistic development of water resources with a river basin as a unit. This will involve setting up of river boards with Chief Minister or water Resource Minister as a member, of all basin states for spot resolution of disputes.

The proposed law will set bottom line to major issued such as amendments to interstate water Disputes Act 1956, the Rivers Board Act & the Easement Law to make ground water a public property.
